600-horsepower Porsche Mission E gets Mark Webber's seal of approval
Mon, 21 May 2018 09:15:00 EDT -

Porsche continues to make progress in developing its Mission E electric sports sedan, and apparently it's made enough of them to let former F1 driver and recent Porsche 919 Hybrid endurance car driver Mark Webber take a turn behind the wheel. The company got his test drive on video, along with his impressions. He seems quite pleased.

Junkyard Gem: 1984 Porsche 944 with automatic transmission
Wed, 16 May 2018 14:35:00 EDT -

The Porsche 944 was too stiff and cramped to be a sensible commuter car, so why would anyone have thought to buy one with an automatic transmission. That's what happened with this '84, spotted in a San Jose, California, self-service wrecking yard.

Porsche 911 Speedster spied testing with new GT3
Wed, 16 May 2018 09:25:00 EDT -

The last Porsche 911 Speedster was a limited-production special that marked the end of the 997-generation 911. We've seen spy photos of that car's follow-up a few times by now, each revealing a little bit more than the last. From what we can tell, the new model is essentially a drop-top version of the 991.2 Porsche 911 GT3, 500 horsepower naturally-aspirated flat-six and all.

Vile Gossip: One Lap of America, three times the madness
Tue, 15 May 2018 11:15:00 EDT -

My ringer of a driver and I both sucked at the confusing Time-Speed-Distance high math, so we hired a pro navigator from California, a guy who'd won a cross-country race doing these TSD equations the whole way. He got us lost the minute we hit the U.P., which meant we were doomed.

2019 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid First Drive Review | Green, but not unseasoned
Mon, 14 May 2018 18:01:00 EDT -

By now, most Porschephiles accept the existence of the rolling cash cow that is the Porsche Cayenne. Count us among them: Crossovers and SUVs sell, and building cars is a business. The success of the Cayenne, Macan and Panamera has allowed Porsche to continue to build cars like the 911 GT3 RS, Cayman GT4 and the 918 Spyder. But it's not just enough to play dress-up with a Porsche badge. A Porsche needs to feel special, too.

2019 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid: 27 miles of electric range, 0-60 mph in 4.7
Tue, 01 May 2018 18:00:00 EDT -

The 2019 Porsche Cayenne is the third generation of the German automaker's perennial cash cow. We all know the story by now. Sales of the Cayenne and Macan SUVs allow Porsche to fund projects like GT-division products such as the new 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. In an effort to broaden Porsche's customer base and help fend off the gas-guzzling reputation of SUVs in general, a new version of the Cayenne E-Hybrid plug-in will go on sale in early 2019.

Sunday Drive: Everybody poops, and nearly everybody buys trucks and SUVs
Sun, 29 Apr 2018 20:07:00 EDT -

The hot topic this past week was Ford's revelation that it plans to jettison traditional passenger cars — Fiesta, Focus, Fusion and Taurus — in the U.S. to concentrate on bread-and-butter trucks and crossover/SUVs. Every post we've had on the topic has generated a ton of comments from readers, most of whom seem to think it's a bad idea. If you've got an opinion, chime in below.

10 Iconic Porsches from the ultimate air-cooled show

The factory Porsche driver walks off and weaves through the thick crowds waving smartphones at priceless cars. For every 10 steps we take in Ganahl Lumber's vast warehouse in Torrance, CA, there's someone who recognizes Long and greets him. In spite of all of his accomplishments on the track, he might become better known for co-creating Luftgekühlt with Howie Idelson, an automotive culture event celebrating classic Porsches. Without stopping, Long graciously acknowledges the guests and cont

2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS meets its parents at the Isle of Man
Thu, 26 Apr 2018 12:10:00 EDT -

A line of Porsche 911 GT3 RS cars, spanning several generations, splays out along the narrow two-lane road. The Isle of Man is damp, rain sputters against the grassy hills, and as we climb Snaefell mountain road, each car in succession is obliterated by fog. Suddenly, I'm alone in the oldest and most precious of the lot, an original 2.7 RS, feeling my way up the mountain at a snail's pace, peering ahead at the massive RS wings swimming in and out of the mist. There'd be breaks in the weather in

2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Track Test Review: The indomitable track rat
Thu, 26 Apr 2018 10:00:00 EDT -

While the advances on the previous generation are discernible, they are not revolutionary. Worth noting are overall tweaks to the already brilliant suspension, with higher spring rates and metal ball joints on all bearings on the chassis. The previous model had rubber joints up front. These small changes are alchemy, but as proved by the Ring record, they yield results.

Porsche could offer Weissach Package on non-RS models

Digital Trends interviewed Porsche GT-car boss Andreas Preuninger, and asked whether the lightweighting Weissach Package could find its way to non-RS cars. Preuninger might have loosed at least a few worms from the proverbial can when he told the site, "I won't rule out some lightweight package will find its way to other model lines in the future." Even though Preuninger added, "We have nothing planned yet, we're very busy; don't expect to see the Cayenne Weissach next month," the opening will h

Although it seems like we're seeing a new variant of the Porsche 911 every month, the current generation is nearing its end. The 991 debuted in 2011 with the updated 991.2 model stepping in for the 2017 model year. We've seen photos of the new 992 model for a while, but this new batch of the 911 Turbo out on the Nürburgring might give us our best look yet.

When we talked with folks at Porsche about introducing the Mission E here in the U.S., they acknowledged that charging infrastructure was a challenge the company must face head-on. "We have to work on our charging infrastructure [across] the nation, so that range anxiety — despite the fact that we have a bigger range than 300 miles — is not a barrier," Porsche Cars North America President and CEO Klaus Zellmer told us. Now we know a little more about that plan, as Zellmer told Automo
